Greeting the Sabbath: Lekha Dodi

On Friday evening as we welcome Shabbat, we sing the beautiful 16th-century hymn by Rabbi Shelomo Ha-Levi Alkabetz, Lekha Dodi – “Come, my beloved, to welcome the bride.” There are several recordings of the familiar S&P tune for Lekha Dodi from communities around the world, demonstrating some regional variation: Amsterdam (Hazzan S.
